Owning my own home had always seemed like a dream. In the past seven years I had moved eight times: from my parent’s house, to dorms, to renting in three different places. My boyfriend, Mike, had been there for me through most of my moves, helping me haul my stuff from place to place.
One weekend, Mike and I decided to go look at condos just for fun. Well, going to look “for fun” is never a good idea and we walked out of every building more and more excited. The last building we looked at was in a low traffic area, with a paved running path right across the road. Walking into the building it had an indoor gym and was very well decorated. The suite we looked at was a beautiful open concept, two bedroom, 1 000 square foot, main level condo; it was absolutely perfect.
Well, needless to say we put a verbal hold on the property immediately as it was the only one left in the building. After surprising both our parents and bringing them to see our potential new home, we decided to take the leap. We purchased our first home together as a couple. Three days before we took possession of our new home Mike showed up at my house with a huge bouquet of flowers and dessert. When it came time for dessert I opened the fridge to find a cake with the words “Will You Marry Me!” on it. I was completely shocked but of course I said “YES!” I never dreamed that we would buy a condo and get engaged all in the same month. Three days later we were moving into our new home as a newly engaged couple. In my wildest dreams I couldn’t have pictured something more perfect.
