Renovations and Moving: What to Do Before You Unpack
You are in the process of moving in and all your stuff is in boxes. But before you get to unpacking, there are a few chores to take care of before the home is move-in ready.
What to do first? There are many things to consider.
If you have the time and the know-how, or if you can hire a trade expert, this is a great time to replace or repair a floor, knock down a wall, or update the heating system.
It is also an excellent opportunity to do some painting. Before you unpack, there are fewer objects to navigate around and less things for paint and other materials to spill on.
If you are doing any sanding in the house, this is also a great time to do so. It will reduce the amount of clean up afterward.
Moving is also a chance to do some spring cleaning and de-cluttering in advance! Yes, it is the best time to get into the nooks and crannies and clean the places that are less accessible with furniture and the like in the way. Through moving, you always get to make some decisions on items that you have but never use, items that you like but never loved, and items that are old and need to be replaced.
Moving can be a stressful time but some planning and organizing around your new place before the boxes get unpacked can help a lot down the road. And don’t forget about wiring for sound systems or alarms. This is also something that is easier (and cheaper) before you do your finish in your new home!
